Elephant Cake Topper
While cakes are my creative outlet, I am far from being a skilled artist. However I took a big risk recently trying to create a special cake for my Mother-in-law’s birthday. She loves elephants and I wanted to create something different. Instead of a traditional cake topper, I created a plaque that sat right on top of the cake, making it easy to remove and save.
Here are a few in progress shots of how the cake plate came together.
I found an inspiration photo online and traced the outline of Momma and baby elephant to use as a guide. Transferred this onto the cake board and then using Sweettastic modeling chocolate, built up the 2-D image.
After their bodies were in place, I used a little colored chocolate to cover the background and then painted in all the details with a mixture of cocoa butter and color dusts.
